Ami Kolkata

'Ami Kolkata' - meaning 'I am Kolkata', is an experiential museum; housed in a grand heritage monument, protected under the Archaeological Survey of India. Designed as a conversation between the character of the city and the colonial building, the aim was to bring Kolkata alive within the space. And by doing so, reclaim the building for the city. ‘Ami Kolkata’ challenges the notion of a traditional museum. It is a multi-sensorial experience of the city Kolkata – one that engages the visitor and makes them a part of its narrative. An example of adaptive reuse, it has breathed fresh life into a heritage building that was forgotten and crumbling away.
